Eph4:1~3, 17,21-24
ἀξίως worthily of: suitably, worthily, in a manner worthy of
to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called; The mission of the calling: live out a life with characteristics
1. No longer act the former manner, the old self
vanity of mind, lack of vision; darkened in the understanding; living status: impassive, lack of emotion;
2. Put off old put on new
foundation 1: learn Christ; foundation 2: hear and receive teaching in Jesus; action 1: put off old self; action 2: renew the spirit of minds; action 3: Put on new self
3.The life of a new man
Talk ; emotion; spirituality; work: hardworking (command); word:; relationship with the holy spirit; life manner; mind; emotion; relationship ; life principle; fellowship life; life attitude.
4 Live like the prince of the Lord
(1) a marriage of love and obedience; (2) learn the healthy relationship of church and Christ through marriage;(3)a parent-child relationship of honoring and coverage; (4)a master-servant relationship of honesty and fairness; (5)a spiritual battle with the strength and the whole armor of God
Why do we need to live such a “high standard”moral life? Being a Christian needs to work so hard, isn’t it too much?
5. Salvation come from God, no action of man is needed
Example:
After living in Egypt for 300 years, the Israelite’s became slaves from the royal family of the prime minister, oppressed by the Pharaoh and the Egyptian. They cried out to God to deliver them, to be free from the oppression of the Egyptian, to be no longer the slaves of the Egyptian. God sent Moses to be the savor, but God initiated ten disasters with Moses to the Pharaoh, Egyptian and the entire land of Egypt. Israelite’s did not do anything…
6. To receive the inheritance, man must follow the command of God, otherwise the promise will not be fulfilled.
Different situation in Canaan: When crossing the Jordan River: Four priest carried the ark of the covenant and stepped into the Jordan River, then the Jordan River would separate. The Israelite’s followed God’s command to march around the City of Jericho, then the wall of Jericho collapsed. The Israelite’s carried the weapons and fight, then Sihon king of Amorites and Og king of Bashan were gone.The Israelites fought for every battle to kill the enemies. When the Israelites did not fight successfully, the enemies did not go away but instead beat up the Israelites and occupied the areas where God promised for the Israelites. Consequently, the Israelites did not inherit the entire promised land.
Jos 21: 43-45: So Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers; and they possessed it, and lived therein. Yahweh gave them rest round about, according to all that he swore to their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand. There failed not anything of any good thing which Yahweh had spoken to the house of Israel; all came to pass.
Everything God should do has been done, next is the work and responsibility of man: God has given the power of beating the enemies. It is the man’s turn to conquer the land, to beat up all remaining powers with the strength of the lord.
